Most of my life I have masked. I can remember masking from childhood as a form of self-protection. In this thought-provoking lecture, I delve into the intricate intersectionality of neurodivergence, gender, and sexuality, focusing particularly on the experiences of women in sexuality and kink.
Neurodivergent individuals often navigate a world that is not designed with their needs in mind, and when combined with societal expectations around gender roles and sexual norms, the challenges can be profound.
Drawing from personal experiences and research, I explore what it’s like to be neurodivergent as a woman, examining the unique hurdles and triumphs that accompanied this journey. We delve into the societal constructs and stereotypes that shape perceptions of neurodivergent women, shedding light on the ways in which they are often misunderstood or overlooked.
Furthermore, I embark on a courageous exploration of the intersection between neurodivergence and kink. While kink and BDSM communities provide spaces for sexual exploration and expression, they too can be fraught with misconceptions and barriers for neurodivergent individuals. Through candid discussions and case studies, I unpack the complexities of navigating kink while neurodivergent, offering insights into how to cultivate safe, fulfilling experiences.
Moreover, we critically examine the social construction surrounding sex and its impact on neurodivergent individuals. From societal stigmas to the medicalization of neurodivergence, we analyze the ways in which these constructs influence perceptions of sexuality and hinder self-acceptance.
And what it was like to uphold my boundaries both sexually, and have self-esteem, a backbone when it felt like the world was caving in on me. What it was like to self-regulate and to work through sexual inhibitions. And to learn to trust, in an unsafe world. I felt like the world was out to get me so my easiest way was to retreat within and to dedicate my time to self-soothing activities like Martial Arts.
Throughout the lecture, we emphasize the importance of self-advocacy, self-love and acceptance, and destigmatization. By fostering understanding and empathy, we aim to create a more inclusive and affirming environment for neurodivergent individuals, particularly women, to embrace their identities and explore their sexualities authentically.
Join us for a captivating exploration of identity, sexuality, and empowerment, as we navigate the complex terrain of neurodivergence and kink within the framework of social construction around sex.
